2020  Monthly Programs

The program year runs from January through October.
All meetings begin at 10 a.m. unless noted.​   
The club business meeting is held after the program.  


JANUARY 22:  GARDENING FOR BIRDS.  Types of seeds and housing to attract birds through the winter and spring.
Presenter: Representative from Wild Birds Unlimited, Kettering.

Meeting Location: Sugarcreek Township Building, 2090 Ferry Road.

FEBRUARY 26:   HOME LANDSCAPING: A Homeowner's Practical Introduction to the Landscape Design Process. Learn the process of designing a functional residential landscape plan. Will cover steps to create a successful master plan, saving homeowner time and money, as well as outdoor living spaces, basic plant selection guidelines, organic landscape principles, pet friendly and deer resistant landscaping.

MARCH 25:  CANCELLED VEGETABLE GARDENING: Planting, Nurturing and Maintaining Your Home Veggie Garden. Learn more about maintaining throughout the growing season. This overview will cover the benefits of a vegetable garden; types of gardens for all spaces; companion planting; crop rotation; plant supports; watering; fertilizing; weed control; thinning/pruning; mulching and garden pests.

APRIL 22 :  CANCELLED   CEDAR BOG TOUR. Guided 1-mile boardwalk tour of the Cedar Bog State Nature Preserve. The Bog is a National Natural Landmark, one of only 25 in Ohio. Ranks the highest of any site in the state on the Ohio Floristic Diversity Index for its great diversity of plants. $5 Admission Fee.
Location: Cedar Bog State Nature Preserve, 980 Woodburn Rd., Urbana.
Business Meeting will take place in the Cedar Bog Nature Preserve classroom.
 
MAY 27:    MEMBERS ONLY WITH MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING. Members Prepare/Plant Bellbrook Civic Gardens for Spring.  Areas include Winters Library, downtown planters and grounds surrounding Bellbrook Museum.
Business Meeting and Brown Bag Lunch Location:  Bellbrook United Methodist Church, 46. E. Franklin St., Bellbrook.


JUNE  24:  ATTRACTING AND SUSTAINING  POLLINATORS AND HOW THEY HELP. 
Presenter:  Arlon Zabel, Greene County Master Gardener
Meeting Location:  Sugarcreek Township Building, 2090 Ferry Road.

JULY 22 :  TOUR OF  THREE HOME GARDENS IN BELLBROOK. Day Lilies, Roses, and Hostas.
Business meeting following at BGC Member Elaine Middlestetter's home.
  
AUGUST 26:  HANDS-ON CREATIVE PROJECT.
Meeting Location: Bellbrook Sugarcreek Community Center, 2751 Washington Mill Road, Bellbrook.

SEPTEMBER 23   RAIN GARDEN TOUR AT BELLBROOK SUGARCREEK PARK DISTRICT including the retrofitted parking lot and the old ski hill. This program explains the environmental engineering project that our district designed to protect the river and earned BSParks the Governor’s award in 2017.
Presenter:  Kendra Schide, Chief Naturalist, Bellbrook Sugarcreek Parks District.
